Island of Capraia is a small island of the Tuscan Archipelago, situated to the north of the island of Elba and to the east of Capo Corso, much closer to the Cape than to the Continent. From Leghorn and from Portoferraio one can reach Island of Capraia by ferryboat in about two hours. With a surface area of 19 sq km Island of Capraia is characterized by a rough and wild landscape, as yet untouched by man. It is mountainous, with a 300/400 m ridge which creates two diverse slope: one facing westward with sheer walls, abounding in caves and ravines: one facing eastward more gentle, with valleys and coves. The inhabited part is limited to the port and bay and to the dominating promontory, where the village of Capraia rises; the rest of the island is uninhabited.
