The old town of Marradi was a varied centre of notable importance because it ran through the roman road that came from Florence and touched on Borgo San Lorenzo, reaching to Faenza. Dominion of the Counts Guidi since its origin, and in a passing phases changed from the dominion of the Guelphs to the Ghibellinis, becoming then the possession of the Visconti and afterwards of the Republic Fiorentina, that was used as a commercial exchange.
In the centre of the Marradi is the Piazza le Scalelle, in which is the prospect of the beautiful facade of the Palazzo Comunale. Other examples of illustrious architecture are the Palazzo Fabbroni, the Palazzo del Cannone, the Chiesa del Suffragio, in its mystical simplicity, the very elegant Teatro degli Animosi and the birth place of the poet Dino Campana.
In the vicinity, of Marradi, is the Badia del Borgo, one of the most important monastic complexes of the territory, the ruins of the Castello di Castiglionchio and the characteristic country houses of the area.
