A town of old stone villages at the foot of Pratomagno, shrouded in the greenery of Casentino forests, Castel San Niccolò originates from the homonymous (11th century) Conti Guidi Castle towering over the village of Strada in Casentino, the chief town of the municipality. In origin it was property of Conti Guidi, from '400 to '700 it was property of Podestà and than it became a private house. We suggest, to who wishes to visit it, to catch up the castle by foot through the old streets. Inside the tower of the clock there was a bell and today it is conserved in the city hall of Strada.
Surroundings Castel San Niccolò: Strada Casentino, the chief town is an ancient suburb that encircled the castle. The principal square is occupied of a beautiful loggia where every year in autumn there is an exhibition where craftsman shows their works.
The built up area of Borgo alla Collina, is one of principal destination of tourist itinerary, from this place you can admire the entire valley: from the castle of Poppi until the Castle of Romena, from Camaldoli field until Verna to conclude in Pratomagno, embraced by forests.
San Martino a Vado (1028) is a church dedicated to San Martino, bishop of Tours, is the only of the four-parish church, which still conserve the original façade. The column has Romanic capitals with representation of humans and flowers. Inside there are frescos from the little church of Castel San Niccolò.
