Gallicano rises on a hill dominating the Serchio river. The place name probably comes from its founder "Gallicanus". The foundation and the successive development of the city was on the Middle Ages and at this time the village was quarreled by the cities of Lucca, Florence and Modena that wanted to conquer Gallicano.
