Massarosa is the chief town of one the three Versilia communes and it is not on the sea. It is situated at the foot of the hills linked to the South of Apuan Alps. The Northen-Eastern part of this lake belongs to the Massarosa Commune. It borders on Camaiore in North-West, on Viareggio in the West and on Vecchiano in the South. Its location, thanks to the hills, the plane and the lake, helped the first settlement in this territory. Mommio Castello, Corsanico, Bargecchia, i valichi del Quiesa, della via di Balbano, della Pieve a Elici e le sommità di Gualdo e di Montigiano are the best panoramic zones that composed it.
The most important economical resources of this territory are the agriculture and mainly olive trees cultivation. Today, industry and commerce are the main activities. After the Second World War, the shoes industry was very developed and other activities spread out. Two important musical and cultural events take place in Massarosa: one is in Pieve a Elici and the other is in Corsanico. Every year, famous musicians stage and perform there. Most of religious events are lost, but main ones are still celebrated.
