Curon is situated in Alta Val Venosta. In the past it was an important staging post for the mail and merchants from Switzerland and Austria returning to Bolzano. Curon Venosta, together with the localities of Resia, San Valentino and Vallelunga comprises a relaxing tourist destination. Here, the mountains show simultaneously their harsh and gentle aspects, presenting unforgettable panoramas. Above Curon and Lake Resia, there is an important limestone pinnacle called "jaggl".
Curon Venosta is known above all for the Romanesque bell tower which emerges from Lake Resia on which it is possible to go for boat trips. The bell tower is the last remains of Curon Vecchia, destroyed during the construction of the enormous artificial dyke which was built to join the lakes of Curon and Resia, sacrificing a part of the town. Also to see is the Curon Municipal Museum which relates the history of the artificial lake of 1950 and preserves a collection of sacred objects and ancient farming equipment. In the neighbour hood of Curon there is the ski resort of Schoneben.
