The tourist localities of Monguelfo-Tesido are located along the road which leads to the Alta Val Pusteria (Upper Pusteria Valley) at an altitude of between 1.087 and 1.219 m. Amidst unspoilt nature and affording a wonderful view of the Dolomites, Monguelfo and Tesido guarantee a quite unique type of holiday immersed in an idyllic scenario. There are many pathways, including the Sentiero delle Malghe (the Pathway of the Alpine summer pastures) or a panoramic route known as the "Tagblickweg", which offer the possibility of interesting excursions. During the winter period, a few kilometres away, you may find the Val di Casies and the Plan de Corones cross-country ski tracks.
Monguelfo is defined as the "passaggio per il paese dei segreti" (the passage to the town of secrets), since it holds a collection of traditions and flavours but, more especially, it includes a wide range of cultural features. Here, located on a rock which from three sides overlooks a sheer drop to the river of the Val di Casies, there is the famous Castel Welsperg, built in the twelfth century by the Schwinkher brothers and by Otto von Welsperg. Another attraction is the monument and the birth house of the famous Paul Troger, one of the greatest Austrian Baroque painters whose works may be admired at the casa Raiffeisen (Raiffeisen house) and in the Parish Church.
Coming away from Monguelfo, there are the towns of Colle, San Martino, Santa Maddalena and, if one continues, it is possible to reach an altitude of 1530m where you can admire the last examples of masi farmsteads. Monguelfo offers a full schedule of enjoyment and folklore: classical music concerts at the Castle, typical Tyrolese evenings and many other initiatives which will capture you over the course of the year. Tesido on the other hand, is located in the area giving access to the Casies Valley, far from the noise of the town and characterised by breathtaking scenery; like Monguelfo, it is picturesquely defined as the "altipiano di sole tra valle e monti" (the ‘sunny plateau between valley and mountains’), in as such, an ideal destination for passing a relaxing holiday in peaceful surroundings. Artistically, the town preserves a capital with frescoes from the Brunico school of painting as well as the chapel of St. Giorgio which preserves inside some frescoes by the painter Simon von Taisten. Both in the summer and in the winter.
