The Sella Group is as an enormous, compact, square block with sheer rock faces that rises up to 2950 m in the Dolomite mass of Sass Pordoi to the north-east. The rocky mass is delineated by four well known Dolomite passes located at the four cardinal points: Passo Gardena to the north, Passo Campolongo to the east, Passo Pordoi to the south and Passo Sella to the west. This last pass lies 12 km from Canazei on a lush, grassy saddle that separates the Sassolungo and Sella Groups. It is dominated by the beautiful grouping of the Torri del Sella and the long coralline barrier of the Mèsules. The fossil-rich Sella Group has Piz Boé as its highest point at 3152 m and represents one of the most spectacular natural balconies over the Dolomites and the whole Alpine range.
