Overtopped by the Gruppo delle Odle mountains, also called the white mountains
owing to the high percentage of limestone in the rock, the Val di Funes valley
extends in an east–west direction to join finally with the Isarco Valley to the
north of Chiusa. Interestingly, the valley’s geological structure is
characterised by the overlapping of more recent rock formations over more
ancient quartz. No other valley possesses a countryside so varied and with such
characteristics: panoramas alternating between impressive summits to lower
mountains, vines and expanses of meadows, villages and delightful monuments, all
framed within the permanent tradition which has always distinguished the zone
and its inhabitants. It is admirably equipped for summer tourism thanks to the many opportunities for excursions or for winter tourism: it is close to the cross country ski pistes and the skiing carousel at S. Maddalena. It is well to remember that Val di Funes has received the title of Alpine Pearls.
At Val di Funes, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm holiday, farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, mountain chalets, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
