The Valli Giudicarie indicates a large area of western Trentino which includes the valleys and side valleys of the Sarca river basin (the part between Tione and Valle dei Laghi in the east) and the river Chiese. The area is divided into the Inner Giudicarie (from Tione to Lago d'Idro) and Giudicarie Esteriori (i.e. Bleggio, Banale and Lomaso, all places east of Tione). The rural countryside is still the distinctive feature of the Guidicarie landscape and villages.
In the Outer Giudicarie, the impressive mountains of the Brenta Group form the background to soft hills, large cultivated areas and bright green meadows and pastures. Forests and cultivated fields are also the distinctive feature of the Giudicarie where, after Condino, the valley widens into a large basin closed in the south by Lago d'Idro. No less important is the attraction of the historical and cultural heritage of the Giudicarie. The archaeological site of Fiavé, for example, where six distinct areas of lake dwelling settlements have been found, which stood on the shores and near a lake that has long been absorbed by a peat bog. The oldest settlement probably dates back to around 2000 years before Christ. There are many buildings in the Valli Giudicarie of architectural and artistic interest, such as Castel Spine, Castel Campo and Castel Stenico. The presence of the Comano Spas has greatly contributed to the tourist development of the area.
At Valli Giudicarie, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm holiday, farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, mountain chalets, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
