Position and boundaries - Val di Fassa occupies the northeastern extremity of Trentino, on the border with the province of Bolzano (north-west) and of Belluno (east). The southern border with Val di Fiemme is not geographically marked, but it usually corresponds with the Ladin linguistic border south of Moena. Since the Middle Ages, in fact, Moena has been part of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme (Magnificent Community of Fiemme), once under the jurisdiction of the Prince Bishops of Trento, while Fassa was subject to the Prince Bishops of Bressanone.
At first the valley is east-west oriented, from Fedaia to Penia, then it turns north-west as far as Canazei. Then, in a large convex arc northwards, it goes up to Campitello where it takes a steady south-west direction.

At Val di Fassa, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm holiday, farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, mountain chalets, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
