Part of the Tuoro district, this is the second largest of the
three Trasimeno islands. Its name is connected with the legend of Francesco di Assisi,
who is said to have stayed there during a stormy night in 1211.
Its surroundings still maintain the appearance of a 15C village
created by fishermen, where the island's poet Matteo was born.
Furhter up, stands the Romanesque church of San Salvatore
(XII century) and the 19C villa of the marquis Guglielmi,
built in the area in which the monastery of the Minori Osservanti,
founded in 1328, stood.
At Tuoro sul Trasimeno, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm holiday, farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
