Paciano, lovely resort located 392 m above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Petrarvella, preserves its ancient medieval village still intact surrounded by valuable olive trees and rich woodland. In this pleasant place, already inhabited in the Roman-Etruscan age, the view goes from the Trasimeno lake to Valdichiana and Mount Amiata. The history of Paciano was marked by important events since the year 917, when Emperor Berengario gave Marquis Uguccione II Borboni the dominion on the lands and on the "castle". In 1416-1477 the town gave Braccio da Montone its keys and for that reason obtained, from the powerful town Perugia, 190 "florins", which allowed the reconstruction of the castle walls and the building of an important tower.
In the Middle Age, Paciano used to be an important castle to keep guard over the dominions of Perugia on the Chiugi land. a tower called "Torre d'Orlando" is what remains of the most ancient settlement (Old Paciano). An important architectural emergency is Rocca Buitoni, next to which there are noticeable buildings, like: Cennini Palace, with imposing Renaissance loggias, and Baldeschi Palace, with a monumental grand staircase, probably projected by Vignola. In the seat of the ancient SS. Sacramento Confraternity there is an art collection that documents, whit its precious items, Paciano art and history, from the Etruscan period to the XVIII century. Paciano, elected "Italian ideal village" in a recent survey by an important international magazine, represents the ideal destination for a temporary stay in contact with the nature and art. For this reason, important people chose it as the "ideal place" where to live. From these sweet hills, where the olive tree rules, a valuable extravirgin olive oil is made. It is highly appreciated in the whole world and Paciano dedicates a feast to it every year, in the first week of December. Brick-red hamlets, placed in the green hills of Umbria countryside, and modern structures for the reception of tourists, also offer the possibility of tasting a different form of art: gastronomy, with typical products of the most generous Italian land, Umbria.
