Half-way between Spoleto and Montefalco, Castel Ritaldi is a little medioval town. It is a very picturesque center, that rises on the same place of a Roman site, probably of Italic origin around 200 A.D. To see: the noble castle of the 12th century, the Church of Santa Marina (14th century), with an interesting fresco by Tiberio d'Assisi and the Church of San Nicola, with a beautiful portal. Castel Ritaldi's history is linked to that of the near-by dominating city of Spoleto.
The annexation to the Duchy of Spoleto ended in the 15th century when Castel Ritaldi became a possession of the Church and remained under its rule until the Kingdom of Italy was founded. Today Castel Ritaldi is a important agricultural centre in an excellent panoramic position in the small Valle del Rovicciano. The communal territory of Castel Ritaldi, is part covered by olives producing one of the best olive oil in the region.
