This valley, Great Saint Bernard / Grand Combin, also called "Comba Freide", is a wide catchment basin with two watercourses: Artanavaz and Buthier, that after descending along narrow embanked gorges, join at Gignod where they form the Buthier Stream of Valpelline, flowing into the Dora at Aosta.
