At a few kilometres frorn Aosta, at an altitude of 640 metres, the built-up area of Villeneuve stretches along the Dora Baltea river. Situated at the confluence of both Rhemes and Valsavarenche valleys, it represents an ideal starting point to meet with the valleys of the National Park of Gran Paradiso, while this position was once used for a strategic and commercial control. His vitality during the Middle-Ages is witnessed by the presence of a lot of monuments: the Tour Colin (Colin Tower) of the XIIIth century and the manor-house of Chatel-Argent, mhich dates back to 1275, at least the structure which reached us.
Around the village we can find vineyards and orchards hiding interesting little churches and chapels, same of which date back to the XVIIth century. Villeneuve is therefore an ideal place to spend peaceful holidays and to follow historical and cultural routes.
He who prefers the pleasure of an adventure can make a descent on the tumultuous waters of the Dora Baltea river, practising rafting, kayak or hydrospeed together with qualified trainers.
The winter season sees Villeneuve privileged for its geographical position, ideal to go to any valley of the National Park of Gran Paradiso and to know the whole Aosta Valley. Through limited shifts you can practise cross-country skiing, downhill, touring skiing, ski by helicopter and snow-shoes excursions.
But winter is also an ideal season to immerse oneself into the quiet of the next villages and to taste the dishes of the traditional mountain kitchen suggested by restaurants and hotels.
You won't lack the occasions for feasts and manifestations, the exhibition of the Chatel-Argent chorale which presents the repertoire about the local traditions and about mountains.
