The Civetta Holiday Area - a vast area of the Dolomites that covers a part of
the Agordino with the village of Alleghe, the Valzoldana, as well as the towns
of Forno di Zoldo, Zoldo Alto and Zoppe di Cadore and the Val Fiorentina with
Selva di Cadore and Colle Santa Lucia. The Civetta group, that gives its name
to the holiday area, dominates impressively over Alleghe with its north face,
known by mountaineers all over the world as the kingdom of the sixth degree.
Alleghe rises on the right bank of lake Alleghe, a magnificent mirror of water
that was formed in the 18th century from a landslide thar obstructed the
course of the river Cordevole and that today provides the location for many
sports, from fishing to boat trips. In the summer the holiday area offers
mountain fans infinite possibilities for trips, like in the Civetta group the
Nuvolau and in the Moiazza group the Pelmo that stands out in an impressive
way on the slopes of the Valzoldana and the Val Fiorentina. Amongst the
many possible destinations there is the "classic" one in Valzoldana; the ascent
to the foot of the Pelmetto where you can see the Tracks of Dinosaurs:
imprints of prehistoric animals that date back to 250 million years ago. Other
important evidence of prehistoric times is the socalled "Man of Mondeval",
dating back to Mesolithic times in Selva's Town Museum.
At Civetta, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm holiday, farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, mountain chalets, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
