City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto: UNESCO World Heritage Site

Bassano del Grappa is a flourishing economic and cultural centre situated on the shores of the Brenta river. Both the houses and palaces, often covered externally in frescos, remind the visitor of a commercial and manufacturing past in this city which, for centuries, maintained its trait d’union role between Venice and the world of the German empire.
The Ponte degli Alpini - This wooden bridge is Bassano del Grappa's town symbol. The structure, reconstructed after World War II, was conceived by Andrea Palladio who describes it in his treatise: "In the vicinity of Bassano... I have realised the wooden bridge... above the rapid waters of the Brenta river, that puts its head into the sea near Venice." The choice of wood as the construction material is due to its greater elasticity than regular stone and is, therefore, better adapted to the strong river currents. However, its structure was further destroyed time and again, and in the second post-war period was once more reconstructed thanks to the praiseworthy commitment of the Italian Alpine troops. The art of Grappa - Bassano del Grappa is also synonymous with grappa and with the art of its distillation. A testimony to this old world tradition is the ancient "bottega," a place of Italian historical value, located near the Alpine bridge.
